The Social Network (2010)

The Social NetworkReleased: October 1, 2010Director: David FincherStars: Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin TimberlakeRuntime: 120 min.

The Social Network tells the great true story the world’s youngest billionaire, the motivated Mark Zuckerberg. The film follows the young computer wiz’s climb to the top, going through past and present to when he apparently steals the idea for Facebook, and when he squeezes his best friend/co-founder out of the business. Often times, the computer talk and mathematical algorithms go right over my head, but the storytelling is very compelling. The brilliant writing by Aaron Sorkin is just one of the greatest things about the film. The music, the editing and the direction are also great. Jesse Eisenberg is great as Mark Zuckerberg, a fine movie star whose sarcastic humour brings Mark to life. He and Andrew Garfield do great jobs of expressing remorse, regret and pain. Justin Timberlake and Armie Hammer also do great jobs.

Score: 100/100

August 28 Birthdays

There’s a few celebrity birthdays today: Jack Black (43), David Fincher (50), Sarah Roemer (28), Jennifer Coolidge (51) and Daniel Stern (55).

Jack Black

This comedy actor just turned 43 today. He’s been in School of RockTenacious D in the Pick of DestinyTropic ThunderNacho Libre, and he’s been the voice talents for Shark TaleKung Fu Panda, and in Ice Age; he’s also a pretty good dramatic actor, showing those abilities especially in King Kong. I haven’t seen Bernie just yet, but I heard he was pretty good in that. I like this guy’s funny antics and his ability to be a pretty good drama actor as well as a silly one.

David Fincher

This guy right here’s one of my favourite directors. A lot of his films are just so pleasantly dark and I like the atmosphere of them. When I collected films and didn’t really pay attention to directors, I found out that I really liked this guy’s movies as I had most of them. The only flick of his I don’t have is Alien 3. And the only films of his I haven’t seen is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Alien 3.  A good director to me is when they really bring a signature atmosphere and also when I have a really difficult time picking my favourite by them. His other films include Seven (a.k.a. Se7en)The GameFight ClubPanic Room, ZodiacThe Social Network and the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Well, there isn’t a lot to say about this one. She’s a pretty face, who’s a pretty good actress, who just turned 28. I’ve only seen her on a few things, being the TV show The Event, and the films Disturbia and Fired Up!

           Jennifer Coolidge

This picture doesn’t do her a lot of justice, but I didn’t feel like finding another. She’s best known as Stifler’s Mom in the American Pie (original cast) films; and she’s also known as the wicked step mother in that Hilary Duff flick, A Cinderella Story.

Daniel Stern

This guy’s best known as the idiotic burglar, Marv, in the first two Home Alone films. That’s really all I want to say about him.

August 20 Celebrity Birthdays

There are three birthdays today that I thought were pretty worthy to write a post about. Amy Adams turned 38, Andrew Garfield turned 29, and Jonathan Ke Quan turned 41. I’ll start by explaining the accomplishments of Ke Quan, because you might be wondering just who he is. Don’t worry if you don’t though,  I wouldn’t know him by his actual name either.

                                            Jonathan Ke Quan

“Okey dokey, Dr. Jones,” or “Hold on to your potatoes,” would be the catch phrase for this little guy, you guys probably know Ke Quan best for his portrayal as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (and I still have to see the Indy films); or as Data in The Goonies, practically the little Vietnamese James Bond.

Well, that’s all I have to say about this child star.

Amy Adams Picture

Amy Adams

Amy Adams is was born in Italy and just turned 38 today. She is possibly best known to the young audience for her starring roles in Enchanted and The Muppets. She can be both a great dramatic presence (like in The Fighter) and a charismatic one, like as the innocent young aspiring nurse (at least I think that was her role) in Catch Me If You Can. Adams has been nominated for three Academy Awards: all Best Suppourting Actress nominations for the films JunebugDoubt and The Fighter. I admire Adams because she’s just not another pretty face, but also a great screen presence and talent; and she is one actress destined for an Oscar sometime soon, maybe her role in The Master will be a winner for her.

Andrew Garfield Picture

Andrew Garfield

Garfield was born in L.A., but moved back to England when he was three years old and grew up there. He just turned 29 today. He is best known for his role as Spider-Man in the super hero reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. He’s also well known for his role in The Social Network as Eduardo, *KIND OF SPOILER ALERT* the friend turned enemy. He’s a bit of a newcomer to starring roles in Hollywood (with the 2007 exception of Boy A), and he has a promising career ahead of him.

 Happy birthday, guys!
