On this episode of Filmcraziest Interviews, I chat with Adam Rehmeier, the director, writer and editor for the new film Dinner in America, which had its World Premiere at Sundance and has recently won the Audience Award at Nightstream, a virtual genre film festival.
The plot: An on-the-lam punk rocker, Simon (Kyle Gallner) and a young woman, Patty (Emily Skeggs) obsessed with his band unexpectedly fall in love and go on an epic journey together through America’s decaying Midwestern suburbs. It also stars Griffin Gluck, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Pat Healy, and others.
On this episode, we chat pigtails; the writing process and the film’s humour; a big bear in the film and Neopets; as well as the film’s music and what it was like writing the original song in the film, and more.
As for spoilers, there’s a potential running spoiler warning for much of the conversation, but it gets heavy around 39 minutes to 42 minutes (though, as Adam notes, there are only two ways a love story can go). You can listen to the episode below or download it here.
